On Monday 8th December, at 11, Villa Torlonia Theater in Rome will host a new event in the series “La musica è una cosa meravigliosa”, a concert that weaves together Mediterranean influences and contemporary perspectives. At the center of the program are two Italian premieres by Dimitris Papadimitriou, conducted by Georgios Balatsinos at the helm of Roma Tre Orchestra.
The concert will open with “Cerimonial Dance” from Satyricon, a piece in which Papadimitriou interlaces tension, rituality, and timbral elegance. Closing the concert is another of his works, the Greek Urban-Folk Dances Suite Concerante for piano and orchestra, a lively score that transofrms Greek urban dances into a vivid and brilliant dialogue betweekn soloist and orchestra. At the piano will be the young pianist Nefeli Mousoura, herself of Greek origin.
Framing Papadimitriou’s two Italian premierse are two masterpieces from the early twentieth-century repertoire: Ottorino Respighi’s Botticelli Triptych which transforms the timeless beauty of Renaissance paintings into sound, and the Suite from Manuel de Falla’s El Amor Brujo, a work imbued with gypsy sensuality and enchanted atmospheres, where folk magic, dance, and passion merge into a compelling musical fresco.
The result is a journey through the cultural identity of the Mediterranean, guided by the vision fo three contemporary Greek artists. An encounter of perspectives that makes this concert an event of great interest, designed to share with the public the richness and beauty of making music together.
