Following his debut on the podium in February 2025, the Orchestra dell’Istituzione Sinfonica Abruzzese has appointed Georgios Balatsinos as its new Chief Conductor, beginning with its 51st season. This is a key moment for the orchestra, as it prepares for L’Aquila, Italian Capital of Culture 2026.
With the appointment of Georgios Balatsinos, the ISA is entrusting itself to a leading figure on the European music scene. His task will be to guide the orchestra in developing an ambitious program, nurturing young talents and forging new artistic collaborations, such as that with Greek composer Dimitris Papadimitriou.
On February 21 and 22, 2026, Balatsinos will return to L’Aquila to conduct a premiere by the renowned Greek composer and Paganini’s Concerto No. 1 performed by the young Korean violinist Nurie Chung. At the age of 16, Nurie Chung won the second prize at the 56th Premio Paganini International Violin Competition in Genoa in 2021.
